Arabic and Gulf Radio Online: Quran, News and Music

By The Sur Music team, Mousa International Software House

Arabic is spoken in more than twenty countries, and radio is one of the main ways people stay connected to it. A listener in London, Toronto or Sydney can tune in to a Cairo morning show or a Riyadh recitation as easily as someone in the city itself.

Here is a guide to what is on offer and how to find it.

Start with the Arabic page

The Arabic radio page lists live stations that play Arabic songs, talk and news. It is the best first stop if you are new, because it covers many countries at once.

Quran and Islamic radio

Many people leave a recitation on in the background all day. The Quran radio page has live stations from different countries and reciters, and the Islamic radio page has lectures and nasheed. This guide explains how to choose a station and keep it playing.

Country pages

Some pages to open: Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Morocco and Turkey. The full list groups every country by region, including the Middle East and the Gulf.

Each country has its own dialect, its own music and its own favourite presenters. An Egyptian pop station sounds different from a Gulf one, and both sound different from North African radio.

For people learning Arabic

Radio is a free way to train your ear. Start with news, where the language is formal and clear, then move to talk shows, which use more everyday Arabic. If you want to hear dialects, music stations from different countries are useful.

For Arabs living abroad

A familiar voice on the radio can make a new city feel less far away. Put a station on in the kitchen, in the car or while you work. If you want music from home, look at the country page first and then the music pages.

When a station stops or will not play

A few stations only allow listeners in their own country, and some streams drop now and then. Try another station from the same page. If one you love has gone for good, tell us its name and we will check.

Open the page for your country or the Arabic page, press play and keep it going while you do other things.

Questions people ask

Do I need an account? No. Open a page and press play. An account is only for saving favourite stations.

Is it free? Yes, listening is free, and you do not need to install anything.

Can I use it with a screen reader? Yes. Every station is a button with its name, and the site works with TalkBack, VoiceOver and NVDA. Our accessibility guide has the details and the keyboard shortcuts.

Can I leave it on all day? You can. On a phone, allow your browser to keep running in the background so the sound does not stop when the screen locks.
